Lois Amend
Lois Scarpino Amend died September 27,, 2018 after a year-long struggle with glioblastoma brain cancer. She was 82.
A resident of Rye since 1993, Mrs. Amend was born and raised in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. She graduated from the College of New Rochelle.
A woman of remarkable strength and devotion, she married Myles B. Amend Jr. in 1960 and was widowed in 1969, with three children under the age of 8.
Mrs. Amend went on to have a significant career in public relations, fundraising, and philanthropy at the College of New Rochelle, The Westchester Arts Council, New York University’s Gallatin School and Tisch School for the Arts, and at Ciba-Geigy Corporation (now known as Novartis.
She was a volunteer for many charitable organizations, and was, most notably, a trustee of The Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. for 25 years.
“Our mom loved her entire family beyond words, and was loved just as deeply in return,” said her children, Myles B. Amend III, Patricia Amend Bombara, and John Amend, who survive her. She is also
survived by her sons-in-law, Marc Thomas and Robert Bombara; her grandchildren: Andrew, Jane, and James Bombara and Ashley Amend-Thomas; and her brother, /David Scarpino.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated October 3 at Church of the Resurrection in Rye.
