Audrey Love, captain of the RHS girls’ soccer team, was named Lions Club Athlete Month for September, the first honoree of the new school year.

Love has a 99-average in school, repeatedly landing herself on the High Honor Roll. She received a National Merit Scholarship Commendation and the Princeton Book Award this year. She competed in the Science Olympiad competition this year as well as in 2010.

In soccer, Love was the leading scorer on the varsity team last fall. She also plays club soccer with the Rye Comets. And she competed at nationals with the varsity squash team last year.

Love has served as youth deacon at Rye Presbyterian Church the past two years. She participated in the church’s mission trips to New Orleans, Louisiana, and Harlan, Kentucky, to paint, repair, renovate, and rebuild homes. Her other volunteer work, over several years, was at Port Chester’s Don Bosco Center and the Westchester Triathlon.

Since 2009, Love has worked as a referee with Rye Youth Soccer. She’s also worked as a tutor and piano teacher in recent years.

Athletes of the month are chosen based on their sports performance, strong citizenship values, good grades, and participation in school activities. Candidates are nominated by their coaches; a winner is selected by Athletic Director Rob Castagna.
