After 27 years as a member of the Rye Police Department, Lt. Michael Anfuso is retiring from the force.
The Rye native was appointed as a police officer in 1999, promoted to sergeant in 2013, and sworn in as lieutenant of the detective division in 2017. He held the position for nearly nine years to the day, before his last official day in the office on May 1.
Anfuso graduated from Rye High School in 1989 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Marymount University in Arlington, Va. For three years, he served as head coach of the Garnets’ varsity lacrosse team. His first professional role with the City of Rye came 41 years ago, when he joined the Department of Public Works until his appointment with the police.
The outgoing lieutenant carried on a long family history of service in Rye. His father, Peter Anfuso, worked more than 40 years with DPW before retiring as general foreman. His aunt, Gail Klepps, retired from the police department as a senior office assistant after 35 years.
He and his wife of 29 years, Elisa, have three children.
