Luke Matthew Scanlon, a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, lived his life with humor, warmth, and a deep sense of connection to those around him. A longtime resident of Harrison, N.Y., and Sherman, Conn., Luke passed away on May 5, 2025, at the age of 62.
Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., on November 20, 1962, to Don and Mary Anna Scanlon, Luke was the youngest of five siblings. He grew up in Harrison and attended Iona Preparatory and Canterbury School before graduating from Iona College in 1985. On October 8, 1999, he married the love of his life, Stephanie, in Mamaroneck, N.Y.
Luke enjoyed a long and successful career as a broker on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, retiring after nearly 30 years of service. After relocating with Stephanie and their son, Liam, to South Carolina, Luke embraced a second career as a school bus driver — an unexpected path that brought him great joy. He took pride in the responsibility and genuinely loved getting to know the students he saw each day.
Luke will be remembered most for his generous heart, his thoughtful spirit, and the youthful energy he brought to every moment. He had a special gift for connecting with young people and was affectionately known as “Camp Luke,” “Mr. Luke,” or simply “Uncle Luke” — titles he wore with pride and joy. To those who knew him, he was a loyal and steady friend — someone you could always count on. Above all, Luke was a loving husband and a devoted father, whose presence filled his home with laughter, love, and unwavering support.
A true New Yorker at heart, Luke was a passionate fan of the Yankees and the Giants, cheering them on no matter the season. He was also an avid follower of college sports, with March Madness being one of his favorite times of year. Though the perfect round of golf continued to elude him, he always enjoyed the camaraderie of the game and in later years, sharing those moments with his son.
Luke was predeceased by his parents, Don and Mary Anna Scanlon, and his oldest brother, Don. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Stephanie; his cherished son, Liam; his siblings, Colleen, Michael (Alison), and Eddie (Betty); sister-in-law Daria, uncle Eddie (Susie) Connor; cousins George, Sharon, Kerry, Tim, Greg, Mark, and Teena; and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He was deeply loved and will be missed beyond measure.
The family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support they have received. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Graham Funeral Home in Rye. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2025, at St. Gregory the Great Church in Harrison.
