For those who love sports but are struggling to figure out a career path, Manhattanville College may have the answer.

This fall, the college will offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports Studies, building upon their national reputation for their Master’s in Sports Business Management program.

Dr. Anthony Santucci, Professor of Psychology and Sport Studies director, said the interdisciplinary sports’ major is unique in the tri-state area. It includes liberal arts studies and allows students to focus on the business of sports, physical education, and sports medicine including physical therapy, sports psychology, and/or marketing. Santucci said the college is also hoping some of its student-athletes choose the new undergraduate career option. Other careers could include teaching, coaching, counseling, training, and rehabilitation, according to college officials.

“I anticipate it’s going to be popular,’’ Santucci said. “Many students are looking to tie their personal interest in sports with a career opportunity or academic study.”

Internship opportunities will be available with prominent professional sports teams, organizations, leagues, and agencies as well as with youth, amateur, and collegiate sports.

Sport Studies undergrads also can apply to the School of Graduate and Professional Studies and take graduate courses in the Master’s in Sports Business Management program while pursuing their Bachelor’s degree.

The Sport Studies program is co-directed by Dr. Jessyca Arthur-Cameselle, a certified sports psychologist who is also in the Department of Psychology at Manhattanville. The program has two other full-time professors: Dr. Rhonda Clements and Dr. Robert Schmidlein.

Details on the faculty can be found at www.mville.edu/undergraduate/academics/majors/sport-studies/faculty.html
