Margaret FitzGerald passed away peacefully on February 24, 2018, at the age of 78, surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong resident of Rye, she was born on January 12, 1940, the daughter of Jeremiah and Marie (McGlynn) McGuire.
After graduating from Resurrection Grammar School and Resurrection Academy, she attended Immaculata College.
Throughout her career, she worked in Rye, first at National Bank of Westchester, followed by many years at Post Road Market, a business started by her parents, and, most recently, as office manager at Beaver’s Tree Company.
Peggy, as she was called, married Edward (Eddie Fitz) Fitzgerald and they had five children. They were married for 25 years. Mr. FitzGerald died on May 13, 1984.
In addition to spending time with her children and grandchildren, Mrs. FitzGerald enjoyed spending hours in her garden, cooking for family and friends, following the Yankees, doing crossword puzzles, and playing Words with Friends.
She is survived by her daughter Patty and her husband Tom DiNicola and their children, Kyle, Jeffrey, and Devin of Sandy Hook, Connecticut; her sons, Edward “Beber” FitzGerald and his wife Jodi and their children, Karly, G.G., and Maya of Rye, Michael FitzGerald, and Mark FitzGerald, also of Rye; her brother, Jerry McGuire and his wife Martha; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant son Stephen, and siblings, Michael (Mickey) McGuire, William (Billy) McGuire, and Mary Ellen (Chickie) DePauw.
The family is grateful to her wonderful team of physicians, doctors Linda Silberstein, Mung Ho Lee, Stuart McCalley, and Robert Goldblatt.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 3 at Church of the Resurrection, of which Mrs. FitzGerald was a devoted member. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Lung Association.
