Margaret M. Sheehan, 90, a longtime Rye resident, passed away peacefully on Jan. 23, 2025.
Born Feb. 8, 1934, in New York City to the late Michael and Mary Feely, Margaret, known to friends and family then as Marjorie, fondly remembered growing up in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, attending St. Margaret’s Parish Elementary School. It was at the same elementary school and living on the same street where Marjorie met her future husband, the late Conrad P. Sheehan, to whom she was married 29 years until his passing.
After attending the Elizabeth Seton School and Fordham University, Margaret’s professional career took her from New York City to finally the Blind Brook/Rye School District, but her role as a wife, mother and then grandmother are what gave her the greatest pleasures – whether cheering on the Rye High School boys ice hockey team, being present at every music and modern dance recital, or chairing the Girl Scouts’ Cookie Drive. Margaret was the devoted mother of Christa McNamara (John) of Darien, Connecticut; Deirdre Culver (Christopher) of Greenwich, Connecticut and Jamestown, Rhode Island; and Conrad Sheehan (Cathy) of Kenilworth, Illinois.
For many years, she was actively involved with the 26th Twig in Rye, which supported the local hospital, and where she formed many close friendships. Marge faithfully attended the Church of the Resurrection as a parishioner and was a member of its Flower & Altar Society. She thoroughly enjoyed gardening, tending to her beautiful pink roses, playing bridge and traveling to destinations near and far with her family. Many summer days were also spent at the beach in Point Lookout with the extended Sheehan family who would gather to enjoy large dinners that inevitably ended with the singing of many songs, most notably “Alouette.”
In addition to her children, Margaret is survived by her grandchildren Katherine, Mark and Connor McNamara, and Grace, Conrad, Gavin and Devin Sheehan; her sister, Josephine Pecorelli; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Michael and Edward Feely.
The family will receive friends at the Graham Funeral Home today, Jan. 28, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025 at the Church of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. Interment to follow immediately at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
