Maria Regina Matek Bach died surrounded by family on Saturday, Jan. 18.

She was the daughter of Stanley J. Matek, who predeceased her and Mary Regina Maier Ryan. Maria was born in Milwaukee, Wisc., and spent much of her formative years in California, Arizona, and Wisconsin before her family moved to Rye in 1985.

Maria was a graduate of Rye High School and studied for a psychology degree at Marquette University. Over the course of her career, she was an executive portfolio bid manager at British Telecom, Concert, AT&T, and Vodaphone.

An enterprising woman, she created several businesses that included a line of gift baskets and was a certified personal trainer. She participated in several Rye triathalons.

Over the years Maria engaged in fundraising for the Don Bosco Center in Port Chester and the Rye Public Library, and held leadership positions in the PTA at the Milton School. She was known for hosting memorable celebrations and fundraising events and enjoyed painting landscapes of Laurel Lake in Three Lakes, Wisc. – a family cabin from her earliest childhood.

In addition to her mother, Maria is survived by her son, Andrew Matek Bach, and daughter, Caitlyn Jane Bach; her brother, Christopher Matek (Nancy Gaugert), and sister, Monica Ryan, as well as nephew and nieces, Lex, Ryan, Evelyn, and Frances. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles, Louis Maier (Jean), Maggie Maier Marquis (Art), Nell Maier Wegmann, and John Michael “Mickey” Maier (Jane Lewis). She is further survived by her former husband Brian Bach and her caring companion Paul Gamel.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Graham Funeral Home, 1036 Boston Post Road, in Rye. A wake will be held on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 4-7 p.m.

May her memory be a blessing.
