Marjorie Alexander, Longtime Rye Resident, Dies at 103

Marjorie lived a life rich in love, resilience, and warmth.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marjorie Jessica Alexander, a longtime Rye resident, on Jan. 28, 2025, at the age of 103. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, Marjorie passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on Nov. 25, 1921, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, to the late Doane and Jesse Curtis, Marjorie lived a life rich in love, resilience, and warmth. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Dr. Charles J. Alexander. Marjorie is survived by her two cherished daughters: Beth (married to Barney Foltman) and Joanne Miceli. She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren — Charlie and later his partner Allie; Meighan, Jessica, Erin, and Ronin — and a delighted great-grandmother to Cody, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy.

Marjorie’s life was defined by her boundless kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. A lover of gardening, baking, and spending time with her family at their beloved summer home at Ingonish Beach, Nova Scotia, she treasured the simple joys of life — whether it was a day spent on the beach or evenings shelling and savoring fresh crab.

Marjorie was also known for her incredible strength and fighting spirit. At the age of ninety-two, she triumphed over cancer, a testament to her strength and determination.

A wake was scheduled for Jan. 31 at Graham Funeral Home in Rye, and a mass was scheduled for Feb. 1 at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the POLG Foundation (99 Park Avenue, 24th Floor, New York, NY 10016) a cause that was very close to Marjorie’s heart. Marjorie’s loving presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, strength, and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
