May Crime Trends: Leaf Blower Summonses Sharply Increase

In first month of Rye's year-round ban on gas-powered blowers, number of summonses double from previous May.

Police activity was up across most categories this May compared with May 2025, with leaf blower summonses doubling, and city code complaints and traffic stops also increasing year-over-year.

City code complaints increased by 50 percent and traffic stops increased by 37 percent. Pursuits, DWI arrests, and use-of-force incidents increased by one each from the previous May.

Arrests decreased by 25 percent, from eight to six. One of the arrests was a DWI, one was for drug possession, and the remaining four were for vehicle and traffic violations.
