Rye City Schools officials have taken care of the mice infestation at the middle and high school, according to the district.
“The issue has been resolved,” schools Superintendent Tricia Murray told The Record. “As with all school districts, we continue to follow established pest management protocols and best practices to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.”
The Rye City School District received reports about an increase in mice activity in late May, contracting pest control specialists for reinforcement after the mice made their way onto campus and into the school building. The district declined to provide the name of the pest control company they worked with.
“School days have not been impacted, and students continue to attend classes and activities as normal,” Murray added.
District facilities staff have been working with the pest specialists to identify potential points of entry and enhance cleanliness protocols. In addition, officials have made an effort to reduce potential food attractants.
“As part of our response, all students have cleaned out their lockers this week,” Rye High Principal Andrew Hara wrote to RHS families on May 29. “We also ask for your support in reminding students that any food brought to school should be stored in sealed containers and that no food should be left in lockers overnight.”
The last day of school is June 26.
