Rye baseball snapped its three-game losing streak Wednesday, beating Suffern 8-2 at home.
Senior Jamie Morris went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBIs to lead the Garnets’ offense. He was one of six with a multi-hit game, joining seniors Nolan Hutson, Lucas London, Jackson Pineault, Harry Ellis, and junior Luke Ontaneda.
Hutson led the game off with a single, then Morris homered to right field to give Rye a 2-0 lead. That was nearly all the scoring the Garnets (10-3) needed, as they shut Suffern (4-8-1) out until the final inning.
Senior Michael Talbott pitched five scoreless innings, striking out five and allowing just six baserunners. London then struck out two of the three batters he faced in a scoreless sixth inning before Ellis closed the game out.
Rye scored three runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The fifth started in a similar fashion as the first, with Hutson hitting a lead-off double, then being driven in by Morris. Pineault and Ellis singled to score two more, making it 5-0 Rye.
In the sixth, a Morris triple drove in Hutson – who got on base on an error – and Talbott. London then singled to bring Morris home for Rye’s final run.
Rye’s next two-game series is against Eastchester (6-5) on Friday and Tuesday, with a game against Mahopac (9-3) sandwiched in between on Saturday.
