Zeljka Juricek and Stjepan Beg were married on August 31 at St. John Catholic Church in Zagreb, Croatia. A reception followed at the Esplanade Regent Hotel. Their international list of guests included 30 people from Rye.  

 

The bride, the daughter of Zeljko and Sonja Juricek, comes from Zagreb. She earned her Bachelor’s and MBA degrees from New Mexico State University. She has been one of the most popular female tennis teachers in the Rye area for years. She teaches at Apawamis Club in the summer and Rye Racquet Club in the winter.  

 

The groom, the son of Kruno and Jasna Beg, also comes from Croatia. He earned his Bachelor’s and MBA degrees from New Mexico State University. He is currently Director of Tennis at Apawamis Club and a senior pro at Rye Racquet.

 

After the wedding, the couple returned to their home in Harrison. They are planning to take their honeymoon over Christmas.

 

 

Engagements

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Reid of Rye announce the engagement of their daughter, Kate, to Matthew Vacca, son of the late Norman and Diane Vacca of Buffalo, New York.

 

The future bride graduated from Rye High School in 2004 and received a B.S. in Neuroscience from Duke University in 2008. She went on to receive her Master’s degree at Yale University in 2011 and is currently working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Westchester Medical Center. 

 

The future groom graduated from Wilson High School in Wilson, N.Y. in 2004 and received a B.S. in Finance from Fordham University in 2008. He is currently working at Royal Bank of Scotland as a corporate bond trader.

 

They met in New York City through a mutual friend.

 

A wedding is planned for May of next year in Rye.

BIRTHS-Abbott

 

Jennifer (Culyer) and John Abbott announce the birth of a son, Benjamin Hampton Abbott, August 29, in Chesapeake, Virginia. He weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces. He joins his sister Hannah, who is 18 months old.

 

Benjamin received a warm welcome from his great-grandmother, Margaret Amendola of Rye; maternal grandparents Cathy and Jim Culyer of Rye; and paternal grandparents Lainy and Dr. Rick Abbott of Scarsdale.
