And On Beyond Basic Training
Cadet Leo Matthews completed Cadet Basic Training (CBT) at the U.S. Military Academy. He was accepted into the Corps of Cadets at a parade and formal review August 13 at West Point.
Also referred to as “Beast Barracks”, CBT is an intense program of initial military training to instill discipline, pride, cohesion, confidence, and a high sense of duty. Among the areas of summer instruction are first aid, mountaineering, land navigation, rifle marksmanship, heavy weapons and chemical training.
Mathews began his academic semester August 15. The West Point curriculum offers 45 majors balancing physical sciences and engineering with humanities and social sciences, leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. He plans to graduate from West Point in 2015 and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
