Legendary Coach Jack Curran of Rye will be remembered March 19 at 8 p.m. for his illustrious years leading basketball and baseball teams at Archbishop Molloy High School during an MSG Varsity special on Optimum Channel 14. Coach Curran died Wednesday at the age of 82.

 

MSG Varsity’s Mike Quick, who has called Mr. Curran the best coach to ever work in New York City (including professional team coaches) will host a special 90-minute “Remembering a Legend” tonight on “A Quick 60.” The special also can be viewed online at msgvarsity.com.

 

Appearing on the show, which runs until 9:30 p.m., will be Ray Nash – President, Brooklyn/Queens CHSAA; John Dunne, head basketball coach for St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, who played for Curran; John Carey, former All Hallows High School basketball coach, who also played for Curran; and Paul Gilvary, former Holy Cross basketball coach and Catholic League baseball umpire.

 

Among those scheduled to call into the television program are: Russell Smith, a guard with the nation’s top-ranked Louisville basketball team, who played for Curran; Kenny Andersen, former NBA player who played for Curran; Mike Baxter, a NY Mets outfielder who played baseball for Curran; Bob Hurley, a St. Anthony High School New Jersey Hall of Fame Head Basketball coach; and Kevin Joyce, a former NBA player who played for Curran.
