Holistic Moms of southern Westchester has been reaching out to the community with lectures on interesting, provocative topics. The nonprofit organization will host a discussion on breakthroughs in standard medical care at the Rye Free Reading Room May 29 at 7:30. Physicians Katherine Scoville and Ivan Hernandez will discuss the benefits of cranial osteopathy and physical therapy, respectively.
Chapter Leader Deborah Fontana, who arranges all the presentations, noted, “Though we focus on mothers my goal is to develop a thriving local community of individuals interested in natural approaches to healthcare and sustainable living.”
The local chapter is an integral part of the Holistic Moms Network, a national organization that promotes a healthy and green lifestyle. Although the network’s mission is to generate awareness and support for holistic parenting, presentations at the Rye library focus on educating the general public on cutting-edge, natural approaches not often found in mainstream media.
Fontana is grateful for the organization’s relationship with the Rye Free Reading Room. “I’m impressed with the library’s support of not-for-profits and with the growing holistic community here in Rye,” she remarked.
Having been introduced to a more natural lifestyle with the birth of her daughter 12 years ago, Fontana is drawn to healthy and safe alternatives. In her volunteer role as a Holistic Mom, she has made it her personal mission to discover and assemble relevant speakers, who donate their time and resources.
When she’s not organizing the free monthly talks at the library, she carves out time to work on music with her husband and their Livingroove duo. Most of the time, however, enlightening the community on the dangers of fracking, lawn pesticides, and Smart Meters is at the top of her playlist.
Next up, on June 19, the Rye Free Reading Room will present a discussion on curing autoimmune diseases naturally. For more information, log on to www.holisticmoms.org or email Fontana at debfontana@optonline.net.
