At the ripe, old middle age of over 50, my ears perk up when a procedure promises to turn back the clock without surgery. When Ultherapy was featured on one show after another, “The Today Show,” “The View,” “The Doctors”, and “Rachel Ray,” baby boomers paid attention. Even better, the non-invasive, ultrasound treatment has a champion right here in Rye at Advanced Laser and Medical Spa at 262 Purchase Street.
Owner/doctor Micheline Giovani explained, “There have been laser and radio frequency procedures that claim to lift and tighten, but Ultherapy is completely different. It penetrates down to the muscle layer, below the skin where collagen production occurs.”
Judging from the steady flow of potential clients at Advanced Laser’s Open House last week, they weren’t just dropping by for the hors d’oeuvres, gift bags and raffles. They were there for Ultherapy consultations with Giovani and seemed rejuvenated by the mere thought of eliminating those tell tale signs of aging, a turkey neck, saggy jowls, and droopy eyelids.
How is this treatment different than fillers injected into the skin? Where the injections volumize, Ultherapy lifts from within. Giovani, herself, administers ultrasound energy below the dermis and the fat, down to the fibro muscular layer via a transducer. The skin’s natural response to the heat energy is to stimulate the growth of new collagen.
“I went with this treatment because it’s a unique therapy that goes beyond the superficial layers of the skin, yet there are no cuts and no needles. It reaches the same tissue targeted in a facelift without disrupting the surface of the skin,” said the board certified internist affiliated with Greenwich Hospital.
Miraculously, it takes only one treatment and its benefits can last up to two years. “Most people get the results they’re looking for after the one treatment,” said Giovani, who assured the FDA-approved treatment is very safe. “Because new Ultherapy protocols use lower energy settings, there’s little discomfort with great results.”
Clients usually feel an immediate retraction to the skin. Initially, there may be minor tingling, numbness, and swelling. During the next few weeks, the skin will continue to become tighter and firmer. After two months, a more youthful appearance is evident and optimum effects are reached by three months. Giovani monitors each patient’s progress at the three- and six- month mark.
The procedure takes less than an hour, depending upon how many areas of the face are treated. As far as the bottom line, the full face costs $3,500; the lower face and neck $2,500; a brow lift and around the eyes $1,100. Isolated features are charged accordingly and Advanced Laser offers special event pricing periodically. Call 921-2506 for more information and special offers.
