A New Jersey man wanted for attacking his girlfriend on Midland Avenue was finally captured in Westchester after Rye police had put out a warrant for his arrest nearly two years ago.
Fugitive Daniel Twomey, of Lodi, N.J., had been on the run from law enforcement since a September 2023 incident in the city where he allegedly beat the unidentified woman and briefly held her captive.
He was apprehended in Tarrytown on May 29 and transferred over to Rye authorities.
He now faces charges for reckless endangerment in the second degree, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, and harassment in the second degree.
Twomey first appeared in Rye City Court on July 8, but it is unclear how the defendant pleaded since the case has been sealed, a court spokesperson told The Record last week without providing any details.
It is believed that the court issued an order of protection for the victim.
Because the incident occurred in New York, Rye police lacked jurisdiction to arrest the 40-year-old in New Jersey and had to wait until he crossed state lines again.
Twomey was first grabbed by police on Sept. 21, 2023 for assaulting his girlfriend, pulling her hair and dragging her on “hands and knees” into her 2020 Jeep Wrangler in front of the Courtyard Rye Marriott, located at 631 Midland Ave., according to the criminal complaint filed by prosecutors.
He then drove away heading south on Midland Avenue and physically restrained the woman’s arms and neck so she couldn’t exit the SUV, prosecutors alleged.
Twomey also prevented her from calling 911 and allegedly hit her across the face before leading police on a lengthy chase that eventually crossed state lines.
The victim was able to escape the Jeep while it was traveling at a high rate of speed on Midland Avenue near Rye Recreation Field, according to court filings.

Port Chester police picked up chase in Rye — near the municipal border — pursuing the suspect who was allegedly armed with a gun. But the Port Chester cops eventually lost him in neighboring Greenwich, Conn., according to Greenwich police Capt. John Slusarz.
Greenwich police were then alerted to the car and eventually located it before also losing sight of it around the Cos Cob, North Mianus area in Connecticut, Eyewitness News 3 reported.
Police finally found the SUV parked at the dead end of Lakeview Drive in Riverside, according to Greenwich Time.
Twomey allegedly attempted to run from the Jeep but was blocked by a police car.
The dangerous pursuit finally ended after officers coaxed Twomey into surrendering, Slusarz said, following a nearly two-hour standoff. It does not appear that police found a weapon at the scene, the outlet reported.
Due to his criminal history — Twomey had several prior convictions in New York and New Jersey, according to authorities, including for robbery, assault, and minor drug violations — his bail was set at $500,000 at the time, Greenwich Time said.
It remains unclear if he posted bond in Connecticut and was released. But Rye police failed to have him extradited in that case.
Rye City Court declined The Record’s requests for information related to the case.
