Stores and Restaurants May be Closed, but New Services at Rye Ridge Fill the Void

While we wait for businesses to reopen, a number of retailers, restaurateurs, and service businesses in the Rye Ridge Shopping Center have come up with plan Bs to meet our needs.

Fortina Pizza has taken virtual to another level with its live Instagram cooking demos with restaurant owner and chef Christian Petroni of Food Network fame. “Cooking with Christian” airs every Tuesday at 6 p.m. You can order an ingredients’ kit in advance to pick up curbside and follow along in your kitchen. Lemon spaghetti, a Fortina favorite, and paccheri alla vodka, a popular menu item, were recently featured. If you miss the demo, recipes are posted afterwards. Fortina is also operating a pantry with dry pastas, sauces, pâté, cheeses, and olive oils. All can be ordered online for curbside pickup or delivery along with Fortina-to-Go menu items, beer, wine, and cocktails or Sunday Specials, which have recently included brisket with polenta.

Most eating establishments are offering curbside pickup or delivery, and several, along with your support, are also helping the needy. You can order an optional “Pies for the People” charitable donation pizza from Fortina, and at the end of the week, the pies purchased are donated to hospitals, police, or fire departments. At Chopt, orders of its “Feed the Frontline Salad” will help provide meals to medical professionals. Dig Inn, which has recently added vegetable curry and red wine braised beef to its menu, is also collecting donations for people in need through “Dig Feeds.” And through its “Feeding Family” initiative, CAVA, in partnership with Uber Eats, is donating meals to families of frontline workers through sales of its family meals.

For most of us, a hair salon appointment is way overdue. Totally Hott Salon has come up with a solution: its Root Rescue touch-up color kit. You can book a virtual appointment with a colorist to determine the best color, order a customized color kit, complete with all the tools, and then schedule a virtual instructional appointment for help with the application process. The salon, which has additional products on sale for delivery or curbside pickup, is also offering Zoom classes on blow drying and other styling techniques.
