Forming new connections can be challenging for everyone, but it’s often especially difficult for men. A new men’s group, Tuesdays at 10, is seeking to make it easier.
As the name suggests, the organization will meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays, once a month, and meetings will feature a speaker from within the community.
“We want to see this group grow and become a stable part of the town,” said Campbell Gerrish, one of the group’s founding members. “Rye is a great community, and opportunities like this to connect and share ideas bring us even closer together.”
The group’s goal is to provide opportunities for men in Rye and the surrounding communities to come together and have engaging, intellectual conversations.
Making new friends is an excellent bonus, and members will find opportunities to continue their conversations over lunch or coffee, or by participating in activities of mutual interest outside of group meetings.
Tuesdays at 10’s inaugural meeting is to feature guest speaker Joseph Polisi, a longtime Rye resident, author, and President Emeritus and Chief China Officer at The Juilliard School.
Polisi will discuss his experience leading Juilliard as well as the school’s historic connection with Lincoln Center, and expanding the The Tianjin Juilliard School into China in 2019.
Scheduled future speakers include Zach Iscol, a decorated U.S. Marine and Commissioner of the New York City Emergency Management Department who oversaw the Javits Center field hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as Bob and Will Blake, New York Harbor Pilots who navigate super tankers, aircraft carriers, and cruise ships into one of the the world’s most bustling channels.
“There’s a lot of vibrancy here in Rye,” said Tom Murphy, another of the founding members of the group. “We took a survey of our organizing committee and database of existing members, and we realized there are so many talented people in town who are in really interesting lines of work.
“As we widen our circle, we want to feature more speakers, like professional athletes, and explore other topics including AI, healthcare, and media — just to name a few.”
In addition to fostering enlightening and thought-provoking conversation, the group will also emphasize community outreach and volunteerism.
Tuesdays at 10 meetings will take place monthly at Whitby Castle, beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. Membership is not required to attend, and men from Rye, Harrison, Mamaroneck, Port Chester, and other surrounding areas are welcome.
