In Perfect Hindsight
The Rye High School graduation of the Class of 2020 will be held on Sunday, May 31 at 2 p.m. on the field of Nugent Stadium.
Seniors were offered a choice of June 20, the usual date, to be held on the Upper Field under a tent, and May 31 at the traditional site – the football field. A majority of seniors chose, via electronic survey, May 31.
When Superintendent Dr. Eric Byrne and Rye High School Principal Patty Taylor announced last month, without any consultation with parents or students, that the 2020 graduation ceremonies would be held at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, an uproar ensued. At a packed School Board meeting on September 24, parents and students forcefully informed the board that the Capitol Theater plan was unacceptable.
For those who have sat under the summer solstice sun on the bleachers of Nugent Field at previous graduations, the May date may prove to be a welcome relief. Unless it rains!
