Betty Savage
Elizabeth A. Savage, a lifelong resident of Rye, N.Y., passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on November 23, 2019. She was 85.
Betty, as she was known, dedicated her life to serving God, her family, and the youth of Rye as an assistant librarian at Rye High School for over twenty years.
After graduating from the College of New Rochelle, she went to work as an administrative assistant. Before being hired by Rye High School, she was the librarian at Osborn School.
On September 1, 1956, she married Richard Savage at Resurrection Church in Rye. They were married for 59 years. He died on November 1, 2015.
Mrs. Savage was an energetic woman who loved to walk to church every morning before heading off to work at the high school. She enjoyed aerobics and Pilates workouts at the Rye YMCA. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
“Our mom will be remembered for her smile and kind ways,” said her son, Rich Savage, a longtime Rye High School coach.
In addition to Rich and his wife Maiju of Rye, Betty Savage is survived by her children Bonnie Spurr and her husband Gregory of Andover, Massachusetts, Clifford Savage and his wife, Sandra of Darien, Conn., and Sharon Breese and her husband Christopher of Winter Springs, Florida. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Greg and Brian Spurr along with their wives, Sarah and Stacey, Clifford, Scott, Samantha, and Morgan Savage, Kelly Breese and her husband Willy Murphy, Katherine Breese, and Richard Savage Jr. and Sean Savage; as well as two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Griffin Spurr.
The family is eternally grateful to Lucy Musukwa, who loving cared for Richard and Betty in their home for the last six years.
A wake will be held December 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held December 4 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection.
