Second Floor Nail and Spa opened this summer at 99 Purchase Street on — you guessed it — the second floor, over Numi Hair Salon. Although the view from the window is currently a construction sight, co-owner Danny Kang is ecstatic to preside over downtown Rye.
“I love Rye,” he said. “The people here have such warm hearts. There was no question that this is where I would open a business.”
He and his partner, Jaimie Choi, have extensive experience working for another salon in town. Consequently, they are quite familiar with their clientele, as well as with the community. Both are master licensed technicians with ten years experience. While Kang specializes in Swedish, deep tissue, and hot stone massages, manicures and pedicures, Choi’s an aesthetician, who does waxing and eyebrow/lash tinting, as well as nails. She also offers a myriad of facials, European, deep cleaning, detoxifying, collagen, and microdermabrasion.
Having met on the job, Choi said, “We’re like sister and brother and we have the same mission, putting our customers first always. We focus on the health of the skin and nails.”
Second Floor Nail and Spa was renovated and designed with an earthy Korean influence, utilizing stone, granite, and blond wood flooring. Modern, with minimalist décor and neutral color tones, the shop is serene and private.
Longtime client Cathrine White remarked, “This is a beautiful clean, meditative space that is created with deep passion and a lot of heart. Danny takes pride in giving to his clients in a very meaningful way.”
Undaunted by the competition offered by the copious spas and nail salons in the area, the co-owners are confident in their customers’ loyalty. “We’ve built really strong friendships. When my son was born, I was really touched by the outpouring of affection for my family,” said Kang, whose son is now 2.
Kang and Choi are mindful about providing affordable, top-notch service, as well as community support. All clients are given a complimentary member card that entitles them to 4 percent off every service. Kids receive discounted prices for the same services, as well as “Katie and Jake” favor bags with hairbands and mirrors, named for Kang’s two children. In addition, 2 percent of every single service is donated to Rye City Schools or the local Breast Cancer Foundation.
“Everything is expensive, from gas prices to spa fees, so we know we have to give excellent service to all the women and kids that visit our salon,” noted Kang.
