Rye High School’s crew team was named New York State Champions at the State Meet on May 10, making them contenders at the 2014 US Rowing Youth National Championships! This upcoming competition, which will be held June 13-15 on Lake Natoma in California, will bring qualifying crew teams from around the country together for 18 events with the prospect of earning national champion titles.
Rye’s sailing team has had an excellent season as well, finishing sixth overall and first in the Silver division at the MidAtlantic Scholastic Sailing Association District Baker Team Qualifier held in Annapolis, Maryland. The sailing participants thank American Yacht Club for incorporating the Rye High team into its program, helping to make this athletic opportunity possible.
Congratulations to both teams, as well as graduating seniors who will go on to continue their involvement with these sports in college. George “Hutch” Bryant and Melissa Curtis will participate on the crew teams at University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University, respectively, while Walter Florio has been recruited to sail at Connecticut College.
