With the arrival of spring, County Executive Robert P. Astorino issued the annual call for volunteers to join Pitch In for Parks, the County’s largest one-day spruce up of the parks, pathways, and nature centers, Sunday, April 14, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The rain date is Saturday, April 20.
Volunteers play an active role in the stewardship of the more than 18,000 acres of Westchester County parks. They can choose a favorite park and help with such tasks as trail clearing and pruning, flower bed preparation, debris removal, staining, painting, sweeping, and cleaning. Businesses can also join the effort by donating snacks and beverages.
“I invite everyone to get out in the fresh spring air, enjoy some exercise, and have some fun,” said the county executive. “Together, we can accomplish great things all over the county parks on this one day.”
Volunteers are welcome to pitch in for an hour or two, or the whole day. Work gloves, cleaning tools, and supplies will be provided for volunteers who sign up in advance.
