Pete Anthony Segura, 69, passed away on November 16, 2020 in his hometown of Denver, Colorado.
Born November 28, 1950, he was the son of Rita and Mike Segura. One of twelve children, he always considered his siblings to be his closest friends. Early in his life he owned a pool hall and concrete company with his brothers. He was very proud of his concrete work in Denver and Summit County, Colorado, and was more than willing to give anyone a tour of it.
Later in life, Mr. Segura moved to Rye, N.Y., where, for over a decade, he was the Building Manager of the Rye Free Reading Room.
“Pete was a bright and warm person, not in the least because he was our chief winter fire builder,” said library Director Chris Shoemaker. “I thoroughly enjoyed working with Pete, and learned quite a bit about HVAC systems, gutters and drains, and building foundations. He never held back from offering his opinion on building improvements or paint colors, especially if I picked the wrong color for the space.
“After he retired, Pete was a regular visitor to the library, collecting new books to read, saying hello, and giving everyone a smile. I will miss seeing him. He cared for the building, the people who worked here, and all the members of the community who came through looking for a welcoming place to spend time.”
The most important thing to Pete Segura was family, something he made sure to pass on to his children. He took joy in cooking and was an avid golfer, but he will be remembered as a devout New York Yankees fan who rarely missed a game. From a young age he had a love of reading and almost always had a book in his hand. He was known for his jokes, his tall tales, and he was not above a prank or two. Pete was always willing to help anyone in need or to leave you with a kind word.
“Pete lived life to the fullest, and never turned down a challenge or a bet,” said his family. “He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend.”
Mr. Segura is survived by his wife, Laura; his children: Michelle, Stacy, Dominic, Chance, Peter, Danielle, Jessica, Katy, and Fab; 14 grandchildren; three great- grandchildren, and family that spans the country.
