The Rye City Lions Club is pleased to announce that Philip A. Gormley was selected as this recipient of this year’s James A. and Marian M. Shea Community Service Award. The Award was established in 2003 to recognize an individual who lives or works in the Rye community who has contributed to enhancing the lives of its citizens by volunteering services of an outstanding nature.
Phil Gormley exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism in all he does and serves as a role model in Rye and beyond. He has been instrumental in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for various charities that provide research and support for individuals with ALS, leukemia and lymphoma, and other forms of cancer. He inspires all who know him to “make a difference for others, get involved, and be a positive for others.”
As a 22-year resident of Rye, Phil has made a difference in the lives of many through his philanthropic work on the MAC Angels Board, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Board, Westchester Triathlon Committee, the Hudson River Swim for LIFE Committee, and the ALS Ride for LIFE.
The annual award will be presented at the Rye City Lions Club Charter Night Gala Dinner on November 13 at American Yacht Club. Tickets are $75 per person. Contact Greg Faughnan at 329-6581 or greg.lane.app@verizon.net.
