Former Rye and Harrison resident Jeanine Pirro, who is suing Rye over a fall she had on city property, is speculated to be on President Donald Trump’s short list for the role of U.S. Attorney General, following the abrupt firing of Pam Bondi on April 2.
Pirro has received attention as a potential candidate, especially following a story in New York magazine.
The article by Ben Terris, published the day after Bondi’s firing, said Pirro has been all but auditioning for the job for months, saying she “may be the most recklessly loyal” of all the candidates.
Pirro was appointed U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C. by the president in May 2025. Popularly referred to as “Judge Jeanine,” Pirro is best known for her nearly 20-year run on Fox News as an outspoken television host and later as a prominent pro-Trump personality.
Pirro, 74, had a long career in Westchester politics, first serving as the county’s Republican district attorney for 12 years before being the first woman elected to the bench in Westchester County Court.
Pirro recently called Rye “reckless” in a lawsuit against the city and Con Edison, claiming she suffered head and facial injuries when she tripped over a block of wood that was protruding from a roadway near Rye City Hall.
Pirro was left “confined to bed” and continues to experience “pain and suffering,” according to the suit filed on Jan. 6.
Bondi was the second Cabinet secretary ousted by Trump in recent weeks, after Kristi Noem was removed as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security in March.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche is currently serving as acting attorney general, and EPA administrator Lee Zeldin may be the favorite to take over the role permanently.
