A highway police chase early Sunday morning ended in Rye, when a driver crashed into a Rye Police Department vehicle, resulting in two hospitalizations.
The police car was totaled, and the officer and suspect were both transported to Westchester Medical Center.
Rye PD detective sergeant Chris Salguero told The Record the officer’s injuries were not life-threatening, and his name was being withheld for privacy. The condition is unknown of the driver, Jaime Elizandro Pacheco-Zamora, 29, of Port Chester, who was arrested and charged with a DWI, vehicular assault, and reckless driving.
State police were pursuing the vehicle on I-684 South, which then proceeded east on I-287. At around 1:59 a.m. Sunday, the suspect vehicle got off at exit 11 at the Boston Post Road in Rye, where it collided with the Rye police car.
Salguero said the scene was maintained by Rye police and fire departments, along with county and state police. Boston Post Road reopened at approximately 7:45 a.m. Sunday.
