Police Recover Body of Missing 3-Year-Old in Mamaroneck River

The tot was reported missing around 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 27.

The body of a 3-year-old boy was recovered by Village of Mamaroneck Police on Thursday, law enforcement officials reported.

The tot was reported missing around 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 27, police said, after the child’s 54-year-old uncle and 85-year-old grandfather couldn’t locate him themselves.

Cops came to investigate and search the area, and later found the 3-year-old’s body near the Hillside Avenue Bridge in the Village of Mamaroneck. The child was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department, detectives concluded that the child left his home around 12:12 p.m. on Feb. 27 with the family dog. The 3-year-old apparently headed to the Mamaroneck River near First Street – just two blocks from his house – and likely fell in, drowned, and was carried downstream.

The Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and took possession of the child’s body, according to the Village of Mamaroneck Police.

The investigation is still ongoing.
