A Port Chester man was arrested Tuesday for the alleged sexual abuse of a juvenile July 24 and 25 at Rye Town Park.

Rye police announced charges Wednesday against Manuel Lazala, 24, the result of a month-long investigation by the Detective Bureau.

Rye police declined to provide details of the incident. A Rye City Court spokesperson said the victim was a 14-year-old girl, and Lazala allegedly kissed the victim on the mouth and touched or slapped her buttocks without her consent.

The court record did not indicate where in the park the incident took place.

Lazala was charged with two counts of Penal Law section 260.10(1) Endangering the Welfare of a Child and two counts of Penal Law section 130.55 Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree.

Lazala was processed at Rye Police Department Headquarters, arraigned, and transported to the Westchester County Jail. He is scheduled to return to Rye City Court on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Due to the nature of the incident and to protect the privacy of the juvenile involved, police said no further information will be released at this time.
