The Jay Heritage Center had lots to celebrate this year, and they did so in Roaring Twenties style October 13. At their 20th Anniversary Gala, raccoon coats, flapper dresses, and long strands of baubles and beads were de rigueur. But the real star of the evening was the historic and so-well-preserved jewel, the Peter Augustus Jay Mansion. At the occasion, the first John Jay medals for service were presented to founding member Kitty Aresty and preservationist and civic advocate Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel. The evening’s co-chairs were Congresswoman Nita Lowey and County Executive Rob Astorino. The Felix Swing Band added just the right amount of jazz. n — Photos by Melanie Cane
