The Rye City School District Board of Education’s public budget hearing is scheduled for May 5, a chance for community members to discuss their thoughts on Superintendent Tricia Murray’s recommended 2026-2027 school year budget.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. May 5 in Rye Middle School’s multi-purpose room. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the public portion of the meeting, beginning at 7:30 p.m. and to speak at designated times.

The proposed $116 million budget is a 3.08 percent increase from the current budget.

After the public budget hearing, community discussions are scheduled to run through May 14. District residents are scheduled to vote on final approval of the budget on May 19. Any U.S. citizen 18 and older who has lived in the district for at least 30 days is eligible to vote on the budget and Board of Education candidates up for election.

Last year’s school budget passed by a more than 4-to-1 margin. In total, 765 voters approved it, while just 158 voted it down.

Also on the May 5 agenda are fiscal, special education, personnel, and business items that ordinarily come before the board. It’s anticipated the board will adjourn at 7 p.m. for executive session before the public budget hearing begins.

All meetings are recorded and available for viewing later in the week on the Rye City School District website.
