Rye Country Day seniors Jimmy Sandling, Jinjer Pearce, and Catherine Walker qualified to compete in the New York State Federation High School Indoor Track State Championships at Cornell University on March 5. Sandling and Pearce also competed the following weekend in the Emerging Elite Championships at the Armory.
Sandling ran the 55m and 300m dashes. His times in the NYSAIS qualifying meet were 6.66 and 35.29, respectively. He placed second in the 55m and won the 300m. At States, he took 7th place in the 300m with a time of 6.72, and 25th in the 55m.
This is Pearce’s third entry at States. The defending outdoor Eastern States and NY States Division II 400m dash champion ran the 300m. Her season best time was 41.97 and she came in second in the qualifying meet. At States, she finished in 18th place with a time of 42.20.
Walker competed in the 55m hurdles for the second consecutive year. Her season-best time was 9.01 seconds and she came in second in the qualifying meet. She placed 26th in the State meet with a time of 9.49 seconds.
All three runners plan to compete at college. Walker has already made her commitment to Middlebury.
