In the Premier League championship game at Hooperstown in Mount Vernon March 5, The TriState Thunder, a select team based in Greenwich, took a 15-0 lead over the 4th grade Rye Running Rebels. Then, March Madness at its finest broke out, as Johnny Keenan’s 9-point run over 30 seconds propelled the hoopsters from Rye to a 41-32 win.
A collection of neighborhood kids from Osborn, Midland, and Milton schools went on a riveting 42-17 romp to beat an established, formidable AAU travel program.
Congratulations to the tenacious teammates: Johnny Gasparro, Michael Gonzalez-Molina, James Lewis, Johnny Keenan, Quinn Monaghan, Justin Porter, Charlie Stevens, Rafferty McSweeney, and Harley Goodner. They were coached by Scot Stevens, Jimmy Keenan, and Jim Joyce, all from Rye.
