A party is planned afterward at the Purchase Community Center.

All of the proceeds from the bake sales will be given to The Children’s Hope Chest and used to support its mission of providing help and offering hope to children in our community suffering from poverty, abuse, neglect and illness, according to Wendy Kleinman, who is organizing the event. The Carver Center in Port Chester is among the agencies to receive money from the sale.

Kleinman said children can register online at www.childrenshopechest.com, to get a Recipe for Hope kit, which includes a t-shirt, Children’s Hope Chest brochure, and sample recipes and scripts for their bake sale.

To celebrate the volunteers’ efforts, Kleinman said the Children’s Hope Chest will host a pizza party, complete with games and a DJ. The party is from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday September 22 at the Purchase Community Center.

“In addition to helping those in need, The Children’s Hope Chest strives to increase social action by promoting adult and youth volunteerism,” said Susan Nangle, co-President of the organization. “We are excited that this program will get so many young people out to help others.”

Many local bakeries are sponsoring the event including: Cerbones Rye Ridge Pastry Shop in Rye Brook, Tazza Café and Beascakes iBakery and Breads in Armonk;, Standing Room Only, Cooked, Lange’s Deli, and Patisserie Salzburg in Scarsdale; White Plains Bake Shoppe in White Plains, and Magnolia Bakery in New York City.

Nonna’s Pizza in White Plains and Silver Lake Pizzeria in West Harrison are providing food for the party.
