Rev. Monsignor Donald Dwyer announced in an email to parishioners he will retire from the Church of Resurrection in Rye, effective Sept. 1.
Dwyer has served at Resurrection for 15 years. He was appointed as pastor in 2011 and renewed for another term in 2017. His position at Resurrection is only his fourth assignment for the Archdiocese of New York.
He was ordained in 1979, served 10 years as a priest in Yonkers, six years on Staten Island, and 16 years in the East Bronx before coming to Rye.
Dwyer has had a series of recent health issues, and said in his email to parishioners that he decided to retire after consulting with his doctors and other priests.
