Although disappointment still lingers from the cancellation of the U.S. Squash National High School Championships in February due to snow, the Fairwest Public School Squash League was in full swing at Chelsea Piers Connecticut in Stamford on March 2-3.
The league, which started five years ago, includes schools in both Westchester and Fairfield counties and multiple divisions for players.
Rye High School boys squash team members were able to shine in the final event of the season, taking second place in Division 1 after defeating New Canaan 4-3 and Darien 4-3 before succumbing to Greenwich, 3-4.
Henry Pearson, Thomas Henderson, James Reid, Colby Ellis, Spencer Smith, Elliot Meister, and Grant DeBease competed in Division 1.
Division 2 experienced equally close and competitive matches. Rye defeated Bronxville 4-3 and Greenwich 4-2 and lost to New Canaan 3-4. Rye placed second in Division 2 with team members Ward Urban, Hunter Baldwin, Will Colwell, Will Bennett, Jack Durkee, Jon DiPalma, and Jack Maresca.
