5.20 RHSGolfThe Girls Golf team won their last regular season match at home against Briarcliff/Keio  May 12 at Rye Golf club’s par 37 course, 256-271. Their final record was 12-2 and they finished second in the league behind Ursuline.

Senior captain Erin O’Brien, a four year starter, shot a 51 in the top spot. She finished the season with five wins and one loss playing in the first and second spot. Simone Fortin, a freshman who shares the top two spots, shot a 52. Coach Rich Savage was impressed with her “tremendous poise and talent.” Freshmen Lara Martin also shot a 52. Delucia LePore, also a freshman, had the best score of the day, a 47. Coach Savage calls her “consistent and very skilled.” Seventh grader Amanda Latkany shot a 55.

Coach Savage said all the girls worked hard at improving their golf skills over the course of the season. “We had a wonderful season under the leadership of Erin. She is a consistent golfer who helps all the younger players. The chemistry on the team was terrific as they were all supportive of one another.” The team was extremely young, often with four freshmen, one junior and one seventh grader in the starting line-up.

As of now, four to six of the players will be going to sectionals at Centennial Golf Club in Carmel May 19.
