Rye fell for the irresistible charms of “The Music Man” when Midland fifth graders put on the beloved musical March 19 and 20.
Remarkably, Midland music teacher Rita Pisano, who directed “The Music Man,” was able to create roles or theatrical jobs for all 115 students and have them performance-ready in spite of many cancelled rehearsals due to Mother Nature. Ultimately, she had fewer than six weeks to teach 100 winter-weary fifth graders 15 scenes rich in song, dance, and drama.
There were two casts, each with very talented leads who performed timeless favorites from “Ya Got Trouble,” “Goodnight, My Someone,” and “Till There Was You,” to the crowd-raising “76 Trombones.”
Professor Harold Hill, the charming con man, was played by Kevin Fitzgibbons and Owen Nguyen. Marion, the prim librarian, was played by Alexandra Langley and Maddy Slattery.
Hats off to the talented, hard working, and enthusiastic students, teachers, and parent volunteers alike.
