ROTARY SIGN-IMG 3437Jason Mehler was officially sworn in as Rye Rotary Club president for a one-year term earlier this month.

RotaryJason Mehler was officially sworn in as Rye Rotary Club president for a one-year term earlier this month. Mehler has been a member of Rye’s local Rotary chapter for the past three years, serving as the club’s vice president and also as coordinator of the speaker series. He succeeds Pamela Dwyer.

Since moving to Rye with his wife Carin, who teaches at Rye Middle School, and their two daughters, in 2000, Mehler has become a dedicated community volunteer. He is serving his second term on the Rye Town Park Advisory Committee and was previously a member of the Rye Recreation Commission. He is also a volunteer with the American Red Cross.

At the helm of Rye’s Rotary chapter, Mehler intends to continue recruiting new members and expanding the club’s reach throughout the community.

“A few years ago, our numbers were steady, but we recently added 12 new members and there is tremendous interest by others in the community to join the club,” he said. Among the new members are Rye Middle School Principal Ann Edwards, City Councilman Terry McCartney, Police Commissioner Michael Corcoran, and local attorney Rita Tino.

The Rye Rotary Club is one of approximately 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries. It provides annual need-based scholarships at Rye High School as well as other grants, community and vocational awards throughout the community. Members also volunteer and help organize community initiatives, including the Bread for Life food drive and YMCA blood drives.

On September 27, Rye Rotary will host its first annual golf outing at Apawamis Club. Proceeds will benefit local community programs and initiatives.

The Club holds weekly breakfast or lunch meetings, at Ruby’s Oyster Bar and Whitby Castle, respectively. Guest speakers include local dignitaries and prominent residents.

Rye Rotary Club is open to all business and professional men and women of good character who live or work in the Rye area who wish to provide service to the community. Rotary is one of the most trusted organizations in the world. Membership in Rotary opens many doors and magnifies the possibilities of making a difference. If you are interested in joining, contact Jason Mehler at jmehler@aol.com, or 943-6450.
