Robert Domenico Giglia, a resident of Rye, N.Y. for over 49 years, passed away on July 14, 2021, surrounded by his family at the age of 88.
Born in the Bronx on June 2, 1933, he was the son of Alfonse and Mary (Gaffney) Giglia. He graduated from Mount Saint Michael Academy in 1951 and went on to Columbia University, where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1955. He was a proud member of the Air National Guard.
Mr. Giglia began his career at Wright Aeronautical, where he worked for 13 years. He worked at Sonotone for ten years and American Cyanamid for over 24 years. In 1983, he received the American Cyanamid, Scientific Achievement Award, Chemical Research Division. He had 41 patents in his name.
Mr. Giglia’s first wife, Janet, passed away on April 27, 1993. In 1995, he married Marilyn Picardi, who survives him, as do his sons, Thomas R. Giglia of Mahopac, N.Y. and Andrew P. Giglia of Wilton, Conn. Mr. Giglia is also survived by his stepsons, David A. Oxton of Buchanan, N.Y., and Mark J. Oxton of Avon, Conn.; eight grandchildren: Max, Grace, Thomas, and Erika Giglia, and Dylan, Ryan, Addison, and Avery Oxton; and two sisters, Carolyn Norris and Ellen McDelasson.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Church of the Resurrection in Rye on July 21.
