RowAmerica Rye sent a team of 73 rowers to race in 12 youth events last month at the Head of the Charles outside Boston, one of the largest and most prestigious regattas in the world.
They came back home with eight medals, including four firsts.
And the Women’s Youth Eight won for the third straight year, finishing 26 seconds in front and breaking their own course record by 13 seconds in the process.
The Head of the Charles Regatta hosts over 12,000 competitors from 828 rowing clubs/teams. In addition to the Women’s Youth Eight, the Women’s Under-17 Eight and the Women’s Youth Four also captured gold, the latter by a whopping 21 seconds.
The men were no slouches, either. The RowAmerica Rye Men’s Under-17 Four A team took first, and the B team came in second. The Men’s Youth Quad was also second in their finals, as was the Men’s Youth Four.
“I am very proud of how we did,” said Marko Serafimovski, the club’s Girls Coach and Director of Rowing. “The team worked hard all fall and began the season with strong results at the Head of the Riverfront and Head of the Housatonic, where we took the overall team trophies for the fifth consecutive year.
“In an international field of highly selected crews with up to 90 entries in many events, the team’s strong performance in Boston demonstrated a real depth of talent in our program on both the boys and girls teams. Overall, we were the best performing youth club at Head of the Charles 2024 with the most points earned.
“Even though this is just one step towards preparation for the spring season and
Youth Nationals — where there will be plenty of fast crews — I feel that we are on a good track now. We are looking forward to our last race, Head of the Schuylkill on Oct. 27, to complete our fall racing season.”
