Four Rye High School football players and one Rye Country Day player were named to all-state teams by the New York State Sportswriters Association in January.
Each school had one player earn first-team all-state honors. Rye senior Jake Kessner was a first-team linebacker in Class A. Rye Country Day junior Amir Hogans was a first-team defensive back in Class B.
Other Rye all-state selections were senior defensive back Chris Iuliano (second team), senior defensive lineman Patrick McGuire (third team), and junior quarterback Carson Miller (fifth team).
The Garnet honorees were part of a core that led Rye to 20 straight wins, dating back to 2023, a streak that ended against Somers in the Section 1 Class A championship game.
Iuliano, who also played running back, scored a touchdown in 14 straight games, including two in a 35-14 Section 1 Class A semifinal win over Yorktown.
In the Section 1 Class A championship, Miller threw a touchdown pass that gave Rye a 7-0 lead, and the Garnets were ahead 14-7 at halftime. He threw another to Kessner late in the game, but the 35-21 loss against the eventual Class A state champions ended Rye’s season at 10-1.
Hogans helped lead the Wildcats to a MIFL Bowl Division Championship appearance. He racked up 27 tackles, three interceptions, five pass deflections, three forced fumbles, and two fumbles recovered. He is the only first-team all-state defensive selection who isn’t a senior.
