After a 4-3 start to the season, the Rye baseball team has won 10 straight and remains unbeaten since a spring training trip to Florida.
The Garnets (14-3) play three games in the next three days to end the regular season, with hopes of continuing their hot streak into the playoffs. Rye is neck and neck with Panas (13-4) atop the Class A standings.
Rye plays at Eastchester (9-8-1) at 4:30 p.m. today and at Valhalla (8-10) at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow before hosting the regular-season finale at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday against Clarkstown North (8-11).
After a walk-off 2-1 win against Croton-Harmon to start last week, the Garnets beat Byram Hills 7-1 on May 8 and won 5-3 at Harrison on May 10. The three runs were the most Rye has allowed in the win streak. Over the past 10 games, the Garnets outscored their opponents 83-9.
In the latest win, Rye and Harrison were tied 1-1 after the first inning. The Huskies took a 3-1 lead in the third before the Garnets secured the win with four runs in the fifth. Junior Jamie Morris and sophomore Luke Ontaneda both drove in fifth-inning runs on singles. With the bases loaded, senior Vincent Sculti was hit by a pitch, and junior Lucas London walked, scoring two more runs.
Senior Jack Sheridan started for Rye, allowing one run in two innings. Senior Peter Davies earned the win, allowing two hits and two runs with six strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Senior Charlie Rupp got the final four outs for the save.
