The Rye baseball team (7-3) blanked Bronxville 8-0 on Wednesday for their third-straight win since returning from the spring training trip in Orlando.
The Garnets have outscored the three opponents 23-0, beating Hendrick Hudson 12-0 on Saturday before sweeping Bronxville with 3-0 and 8-0 wins.
Rye led 1-0 through two innings Wednesday before a five-run third, when junior shortstop Nolan Hutson drove in two runs and sophomores Luke Ontaneda and Ben Fineberg each drove in one. Hutson, Rye’s leadoff hitter, went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the game. Senior first baseman Charlie Rupp also drove in two runs.
Senior captain Jack Sheridan pitched seven impressive shutout innings, with 58 strikes on 85 pitches, giving up no walks and only four hits in 24 batters faced.
“Clayton McCarthy and Jack Sheridan have been amazing these past three outings,” said Rye coach Mike Bruno, “and the defense has stepped up as well.”
Sam Dicker had two of the Broncos’ four hits in three at-bats.
Rye will close out this week’s matchups with a home game against Pelham at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
“Still some tough league games coming up, starting with Pelham at home,” Bruno said. “The team keeps improving every game, so that’s all I can ask for.”
