The Rye boys and girls soccer teams’ bids to repeat as section champions begin this week in Nugent Stadium.

The boys are seeded No. 1 in the Section 1 Class A playoffs, opening the postseason at home Friday against 16th-seeded Pelham (4-12). Rye (12-1-3) beat the Pelicans twice this season by a combined score of 12-0.

With a win, the Garnets will advance to host Edgemont (11-4-1) or Byram Hills (9-4-3) in the quarterfinals Monday. Rye beat Eastchester twice this season and suffered its only loss against Byram Hills on Sept. 10 before going 10-0-2 the rest of the way.

Despite an unbeaten 13-0-3 record, the girls are seeded third behind Pleasantville (16-0) and Tappan Zee (13-1-2). The Garnets open the postseason at home Saturday against No. 14 Irvington (5-8-3).

The winner plays Pearl River (11-4-1) or Eastchester (5-5-6) in the quarterfinals Tuesday. Eastchester was one of the three teams that played Rye to a scoreless draw in September, before the Garnets finished with nine straight wins, including a 4-0 defeat of the Eagles in their second meeting.
