Another night, another pair of comfortable victories for the Rye boys and girls basketball teams.

Both of the Garnets’ squads won big in Section 1 Class AA quarterfinal home games Thursday, advancing to play in the Sectional semifinals Tuesday at Westchester County Center.

First, the No. 3 Rye boys beat No. 6 Nyack, 62-46. Playing in Rye’s gym for a final time, senior Jake Kessner scored a game-high 25 points. Junior Henry Shoemaker added a dozen.

Immediately following the boys game, the Garnet girls took the court and won by an even larger margin. The No. 2 Rye girls beat No. 10 Yorktown, 47-20, and it wasn’t nearly as close as the final score indicated.

Rye played stifling defense from start to finish against the Huskers, who didn’t reach double figures until the final five minutes of the game. The Garnets led 37-8 with 4:52 left.

The Rye boys (16-6) will play either Yorktown (17-4) or Horace Greeley (16-5) on Tuesday at Westchester County Center.

The Rye girls (19-3) will play Tappan Zee (15-7), which beat Clarkstown South 71-56 on Thursday.
