In coach Tom Proudian’s world, every minute of every game matters. As a high school teacher himself, he knows every instant of a game, no matter the opponent or the score, is a teachable moment for his boys. The season-long lesson for these Garnets? Believe in each other and the wins will come.
So it was in Rye’s 69-42 win over Eastchester on Monday. This was the same Eastchester team that surprised Rye nearly a month ago on Jan. 16 with a 46-43 Eagles’ victory. While coach Fred DiCarlo’s Eagles (10-6) have been struggling a bit of late, dropping their fourth game in a row, Rye (10-5) has won four of its past five.
On its home court yesterday, Rye added yet another new wrinkle to their quietly surging Class AA resume: power basketball in the paint. Seniors Rocklan Boisseau (game-high 19 points), Andrew Wilmarth (14), Jake Kessner (10), and junior Henry Shoemaker (12) all contributed from close range to wear down the Eagles. By the middle of the fourth quarter, the game was comfortably in the hands of Rye’s reserves.
Only four regular-season games remain for the Garnets — beginning with a 4:30 p.m. game Feb. 5 at Pelham — then the Section 1 playoffs begin. These Garnets look ready.
