Rye’s boys soccer team completed the first quarter of the 2026 regular season with a steadfast 4-0 victory Wednesday over Keio Academy in Harrison. Were it not for the incredible play of Keio’s goalie – who made multiple jaw-dropping saves – this game might have gotten out of hand.
With their fourth win in as many games, the Garnets outscored their opponents by a margin of 17-0. Athletic and creative in the midfield, loaded in the front row, and four clean sheets from their defense all add up to a squad that is looking rather difficult to beat.
Coach Jared Small knows it’s early, but Rye’s roster balance and bench depth are certainly encouraging.
“My fellow coaches and I are pleased with the process and effort thus far,” Small said. “Our training sessions have been exceptional the last few weeks, and it’s nice to see our performance and matches in the early going reflect the quality of our preparation.”
Goals in this one were scored first by Gabe Shared-Sandstrom with an assist from Harrison Zimmer. Kasen Scarperi netted Rye’s second goal thanks to an assist from James Hayashi. Next was Connor Dehmer, assisted by Peter Wilmot, and lastly Keegan O’Brien with a dish from Sam Collins.
“Keio definitely presented the biggest challenge for us so far,” Small said. “The coaches were happy to see how we handled some initial adversity, stayed composed, and wound up attacking in a variety of ways to find our goals.”
Rye will try for its fifth straight win Friday at Suffern.
